No overtime.
Just get it done time.

Holy crap, I can’t believe this sounds so awesome!
How do I sign up?
How do I sign up?
Please? Can I?

Play it cool, little Jack Russell terrier.
Don’t purr so loudly, codependent kitten.
Right meow you’re so tempted to send us your resumé.
That’s what all the job sites require. Unfortunately, a resumé doesn’t tell us much at all, except how many jobs you’ve worked in the past. It also doesn’t let us know that you can follow directions, especially when someone wants to make sure that you’re paying attention. So write us an email telling us what you connected to most in this job description. Include a story of a time you had to be a team player in a business setting and how that affected the way that you work and lead now. Don’t just make it a one or two sentence story.  Give us the details. Spill the beans.  Demonstrate your clarity and kindness and all yo’ bad skills. Then send it to dlopez@petsadena.com.

Oh, and one more thing. Some people skim these emails and only read what’s bolded. They look for the spot where it says “send us your resumé”, blast it off, and never even show up for interviews.  It’s all a big game to them. To avoid that, we need you to include #Aroo Vet Tech in the subject line. If your email doesn’t have that as the subject line, it’s going in the trash.
You’re not a skimmers. You’re a winner. You’re still reading!  We can’t wait to meet you.

Seriously, we want this job for you.
We want you to get the respect you deserve for being so great.
We know if we give you that,
You’ll thrive and make Petsadena even more awesome.

Someday we’ll look back at this email and laugh at how silly it was,
But also how wonderful it was to connect us together.
And our little paradise will spread to even more people.
Isn’t that what business ought to be about?
Hope to see you at Petsadena. 🙂

Certified Rehabilitation Registered Veterinary Technician

Figure it Out, Good Communicator, Who’s Detailed and GETS IT DONE for Animals and their Owners
Let’s cut out a normal job description about what we need and talk about you first…
  1. You love animals, have always been good with them and would love to help them and their owners all day long.
  2. In fact, you’re a licensed RVT with certification from a rehab program like CCAT, CCRP or CCRT.
  3. You’ve always been told that you have a good head on your shoulders by older people.
  4. You’ve never understood exactly what was so special about you that people would tell you that.
  5. Once someone else or yourself puts together a plan, you can figure out what to do and get it done.
  6. If there’s a hole in the plan, you’re really great at communicating with the people involved to figure out the solution and once again, get it done.
  7. You notice details.
  8. You don’t skip the details.  Is that really all that special?  (You’d be surprised at some people, so YES!!!)
  9. You don’t get rattled by problems, ‘cause you’re cool as a cucumber under pressure.  (Admit it, you know that’s special)
  10. Once you’re done, you can let everyone know what happened and make sure everyone feels taken care of.
  11. You’re not bothered by the way the last sentence ended with a preposition, but you sure did notice it.
Now that we’ve established that we’re talking about you, let’s go back to point number one.  You always have time for animals, especially cats and dogs.  You can even like the people who own them, because they love animals too, and that for sure deserves respect.  If you work at this job, you’re going to have 25 to 50 minute sessions with animals and their owners Monday through Friday8-5, some variability in hours, with breaks for lunch, the bathroom, communicating with our team, making sure the pet rehab area is clean and ready for the next awesome pet and their owners.
Yep, I said it.  Pet Rehab!!!
Non-invasive help for pets to improve mobility for a true RVT like You!  (Applause)
With cool gadgets!
An underwater treadmill,
Miniature obstacle courses,
Cat and Dog snacks and treats!
Lots of petting and purring and tail wagging and licking (the animals lick, not you).
Can it get better?
Yes!
Once you’re done with the pets and animals part, you’ll be guiding and educating the rehab team in improving their skill set.
See?
Told ya it gets better.
You’re gonna have a team.
Maybe small at first.
But with how awesome you are, and how awesome we are, more animals will come, we’ll hire more people, and that team’s gonna grow.
And it gets even better..
When you have ideas of how to make things better here,
We want you to share them with us so we can implement them.
Then we’re going to celebrate you for the improvements you caused.
Seriously, ask any employee when you come in for an interview.
We take feedback from our team to heart and do everything we can to make it happen,
Because our team is the most important part of our business.
If they’re not being heard and cared for,
Ain’t nobody being heard or cared for.
Ok, let’s talk important detail$$$$.
We’re gonna pay you $60K/yr to start plus all these benefits…
  • paid vacation
  • 401K with 4% match when you put in 5%
  • long term disability and life insurance
  • 75% health insurance
  • 100% dental coverage
  • 100% vision cover
  • 6 FREE sessions with a dedicated mental health therapist
  • Continuing education assistance
  • lots of satisfaction in the healing of pets and happiness of owners
  • friends that you’ll make for life
  • oh, and we’ll pay your RVT licensing fees
I’m sure you figured it out that we’re a veterinary practice.
But we’re no ordinary vet,
We’re Petsadena, an animal hospital where worries go away.
World class care from checkups to surgery,
Ultrasounds, teeth cleanings, and your favorite, rehab therapy,
We make pets so happy, people wish that they could get
A human doctor that’d treat them half as great as our vets do.
And we want you.
We need you.
We do, and I wish there was a little less needy sounding way to say that.
Won’t you come talk to us about working for us?
Do it for the animals
And Sarah McLaughlin and her song,
And those owners,
And let’s throw in you, because you’re important too.  🙂
Right now you feel like you’ve got to send us your resumé.  That’s what all the job sites require.
Please don’t, because a resumé doesn’t tell us squat, except how many times you’ve ended an employment relationship.
It also doesn’t let us know that you notice details like I said and can follow directions,
Especially when someone wants to make sure you can.
So don’t fill out the form below.
Instead write us an email telling us what stood out most to you and made you excited about this job description,
And a favorite story of yours about a pet and owner you helped, even if it wasn’t while you were getting paid for it.
Don’t just make it a one or two sentence story.
Give us the details.  Spill your heart and serve it up for us in a non-gross and self destructive sort of way.
Then send it to dlopez@petsadena.com.
Oh, and one more thing.
There’s a bunch of people not like you who skim these emails and only read what’s bolded.
They look for the spot where it says send us your resumé,
And then blast off their word doc resumé.
When we schedule an interview, they never even show up,
Even though they contact us and say lots of nice things.
So to avoid that, we need you to include a ridiculous phrase in the subject line.
Let’s make it, “#Detailed, GET IT DONE RVT Cucumber”
If your email doesn’t have that as the subject line, it’s going in the trash.
The skimmers can’t even keep their attention on this long enough to get this far.
They also don’t have a sense of humor like you do, which you’ll need at least somewhat to fit in here.
We really want you to become RVT Tech star of our team and make us even better.
We promise to have your back and make you feel like part of our funky family.
We know if we do that,
You’ll thrive here and make Petsadena the talk of L.A.
And someday we’ll look back at this email and laugh at the person who had the “courage” to write it,
But how wonderful it was that it connected us
So that our little paradise spreads to even more people in the world.
Isn’t that what business ought to be about?
Hope to see you at Petsadena.  🙂

Dental Tech

The Experienced, Down to Earth Vet Dreamer

You’re friendly, good at communicating and insightful.
And you’re super down to earth.
You weren’t always this educated, degreed, credentialed and well-practiced vet
Who could probably practice at any clinic.
At one time you just had a knack for getting along with people,
You’ve never thought that your abilities qualify you for special treatment.
Everyone’s valuable, especially all those people not named you.

All throughout your education you could get your friends and other vet students excited the way you talked.
At one time you were dreaming of making a difference,
Being part of a movement to bring a higher standard of care for pets and their owners,
Something that wasn’t so corporate,
That had a soul, with deep roots to community,
A clinic where you could have time outside of vet work as well,
Maybe something with a team that was actually fun.

You’re doing fine at your current practice,
Got more than 2 years of experience.
But that dream is still alive and unfulfilled.

Sure you connect with patients and help pets regularly,
You’ve always been able to help people realize what’s best for their pet and get them to do it.
But you work too much,
Have to deal with so much focus on selling and KPI’s,
You don’t even think of suggesting changes,
Because you’ve seen so many be ignored before.

Doing fine is not thriving…
Keeping your head down for a paycheck is not thriving…

You deserve a place that lets you thrive and wants you to have a voice in helping us thrive as well.<
We’re dreamers too.
All throughout vet school, we wanted to create a clinic with world class care that everyone could come to…
Cutting-edge medicine with all the tools to diagnose accurately and provide treatment quickly,
A support team so doctors can focus more on pets and communicating to their owners,
Space to have a life, family, enjoy weekends,
Enjoying the people you work with,
Feeling the Feng Shui of the place you work in.

Your dreams could be alive and growing at Petsadena.
We like to call it a little pet paradise here in Pasadena,
An animal hospital where worries go away.

Here are some of the things we’ve implemented to  make our animal hospital one of the best

  • ultrasound
  • digital radiography
  • endoscopy
  • rhinoscopy
  • full in-house lab.
  • strong focus on dentistry procedures
  • non-invasive rehab therapy with underwater treadmill

Despite all that stuff, that’s not what makes this place so special.
It’s the people and the support you deserve.
You’ll get your own support team so you can focus on the pets and owners
A 4-day work week with NO ON-CALL or overnight hours
No working on weekends.
You can’t.  We’re closed on weekends.<

When you have ideas of how to make things better,
Share them with us so we can implement them.
Then we’re going to celebrate you for the improvements you caused.
Seriously, ask any employee when you come in for an interview.
We take feedback from our team to heart and do everything we can to make it happen,
Because our team is the most important part of our business.
If you’re not being heard and cared for,
Ain’t nobody being heard or cared for.

Ok, let’s talk important detail$$$$.
We’re gonna pay FULL-Time you $150K-$200K/yr
+ Signing Bonus
+ Production Bonus opportunities

plus all these benefits…

  • paid vacation
  • 401K with 4% match when you put in 5%
  • long term disability and life insurance
  • 75% health insurance
  • 100% dental coverage
  • 100% vision cover
  • 6 FREE sessions with a dedicated mental health therapist
  • DEA license reimbursement
  • Continuing Education allowance
  • friends that you’ll make for life

If you want to practice PART-Time, let’s talk about it.
We’d prefer full-time,
But we’re open to that for the right person, which we’re hoping you are.

We really mean taking care of you and our staff
We really mean it when we talk about taking care of pets and owners
We have a comfort room when people need time to mourn their pet’s end of life.
Our own staff have to use it some time.
Sarah McLachlan would be proud.

Now I know the standard thing to do is to Send Us Your Resumé,
And we do need to see where you went to school and the places you’ve worked.
We also want you to tell us some of the vet dreams you have
We want to be able to support those and dream with you from the start.
So write us an email with specifics about those dreams and where they came from.
If you want extra credit, record it on a video and send it with the email.
And if you want us to look at your application at all, put #all creatures dreamer# in the subject line.
If you don’t we’re not gonna read it.
We’re serious.  Good vets gotta notice details, even if they’re in charts.

We promise to have your back and make you feel like part of our fun family.
We know if we do that,
You’ll thrive here and make us the talk of L.A.
And someday we’ll remember this email and be happy that it got your attention,
And connected us in a wonderful, rainbow connection way,
So that our little paradise spreads to even more people in the world.
Isn’t that what business ought to be about?
Hope to see you at Petsadena.  🙂
